Kostanića greb

Not far away from Staro selo and the Church of St. George, offering a view of Gradina, lies the so-called ‘Kostanića greb’. A tall stećak (tombstone), one of the most famous tombstone monuments on the Makarska Riviera, that was built in the middle of the 15th century and was first mentioned in 1604.The tombstone is decorated with chiselled depictions of two horsemen and a girl that represent a fight between an Ottoman and a local young man called Ljubomir for the love and affection of a girl called Anđelija. This love story truly happened and had a sad ending, and the tombstone was made as a dedication to and a reminder of a great but tragic love.
