Numerous archaeological findings, tumuli (Illyrian mounds of stones) on almost every hill, foundations of ruined fortresses as well as many other remnants bear witness to the fact that life in the area of Drvenik existed long before the 13th century, when the place itself was first mentioned under its present name. Some of the most significant and relatively well-preserved sites are a winding path leading through Drveničke stine to the top, more famous under the name of ‘Alberto Fortis Path’, ‘Kostanića greb’ stećak (tombstone), Gradina fortification complex, the Church of St. George and a somewhat more recent, but still significant village of Staro selo full of stone houses, located at the foot of the rugged cliffs of Biokovo.
